I have absolutely nothing intriguing to write today. The title may lead you to think I’m writing some rant against the system, the powers that be and I’m mad as hell and I’m not going to take it anymore. Actually, quite the contrary tonight. The title, some of you may or may not recognize is a verse from an old ‘against me!’ song, from their acoustic ep. I thought it may be fitting seeing as how, much like them, I’ve lived my life not wanting to be part of the “system” but now, jobless and broke find myself so much wanting to be part of the system that I spent a better part of my life hating. Not that I want to be a “corporate whore” or anything like that. I couldn’t thing of anything worse than being some poor unknowing character in the song of some 77′ style street punk band.
This blog is not about my joblessness, street punks or the system or even why good bands do bad things, as I stated earlier, it’s about absolutely nothing. It’s so much about nothing I’m just going to talk about what’s been going on with me and what I may think in the next few paragraphs.
So I’m 32 and I don’t have a fucking job. It’s been that way for about 2 weeks I guess. I could say I chalk it up to my own bad luck but it’s not really true, maybe a series of poor choices I’ve made along the way, as with most of life right?
Anyway not having a job has been quite cathartic. I’ve realized I’m ready to move on. I’m actually looking at jobs that I might want to do for awhile. Pretty sure I’m done with bartending and restaurants. Not that I didn’t like it or make good friends, but I’m over it, fucking finally. Maybe someday, if I don’t work that much for real I’ll bartend a little on the side but for the most part I’m done.
So in my joblessness I’ve resorted to downloading movies from the internet to cure my boredom or more importantly keeping me from going out and being a useless drunk. Not really into the big blockbusters but those seem to download the fastest. I’m writing this to talk about one or two movies in particular. The other night I watched a movie called “shoot em up”. When I first saw the previews I thought it was just another ‘trying to be hip’ hitman movie. After watching I realized it was fucking brilliant. Although it was pretty much another cheesy hitman movie, it used an hour and a half of guns blazing and blood spattering to make fun of the typical action, cheesy hitman type movie. I’m not into violence and heroics and all that but this was fucking comedy, really good shit. Another movie I’ve seen recently, possibly a target of ridicule for ’shoot em up’ was die hard 4. I admit John Mclane is a bad ass dude but this movie went a little too far and I think it’s time to give it up. I’m not going to spoil it for anyone all I will say is a New York cop, in Baltimore hanging off the back of a U.S. F35 Fighter jet, reality TV eat your heart out. Speaking of making fun of cop movies, see Hot Fuzz, really funny and fun to watch.
Anyway, I’ve just decided I’m drunk and I have to leave for Chicago tomorrow morning. My last coherent thought of the night comes from some readings from the IWW (international workers of the world) of which I am a member. We are obviously the most advanced, civilized?, richest county in the world right? Our constitution is pretty much the core of our beliefs and existence of the USA??? We put much weight in our constitution and fight very vehemently for it. So the constitution surely ensures our right to very important things like ‘right to have some fuckin’ guns!!’ and ‘the right to not have soldiers stationed at our homes during times of war’ (i thank god for that one everyday!) But it does not guarantee any rights that this country and its people may actually need like…’the right to education???…the right to health care???…the right to make a living wage???…If anyone can think of any reason what so ever that the right to have guns or not have fucking soldiers in your house should outweigh these rights, which should be afforded any person no matter what nationality, then you, my friend, are a true fucking asshole and I applaud your ability to be more selfish and ignorant than a pretty good percentage of the whole fucking earth.
I invite someone to argue this, to give me some bull shit story about how immigrants will rule this country and I’m letting them win or some shit like that. Please tell me the ole’ great story about the dude and the bootstraps…I don’t even know what the fuck ‘bootstraps’ are and how you would pull yourself up with them. How much did those boots and your bootstraps cost? Lets hear some stories about someone pulling themselves up by the laces of their no-name generic tennis shoes.
While I’m a hopeless romantic when it comes to the democratic process in this country most of my views are outside of the realm of any of the current candidates. If I had to I’d support fellow Ohioan Dennis Kucinich. There is no one even close to getting anything right. Universal health care is closest we’ve come to a decent answer to anything in a long time. The recent increase in fuel efficiency had me fucking flabergasted that gw approved it. Our version of democracy is pretty fucking lame, I don’t feel very confident in our country to do anything right now matter who is elected. You may call me a communist and I would just remind you that I’m not a communist, only a democratic socialist.
Now I’m done ranting, pretty drunk and going to bed. party fucking animal.
