Just thought I’d give my two cents on an awesome movie I saw recently. It’s called “Inherit the Wind”. It’s based on the 1925 Scopes Monkey Trial in which, Scopes, a biology teacher from Tennessee is arrested for teaching evolution in his class. While all the names have been changed in this movie they actually use transcripts from the case for much of the court dialog. Spencer Tracy plays the lawyer defending the teacher. Was never much of a Spencer Tracy fan till I saw this movie. His role is probably one of my favorite movie characters of all time. This actually is now on my top list of favorite movies also. The big argument in this movie is religion. The movie, especially Tracy’s character, does an awesome job of exposing the southern religious fanatics for what they are even though this movie is almost 50 years old. At the same time it does lend some respect for those that don’t take their views too far. The movie even goes into the belief some people have that the earth is only 4000 to 6000 years old. This is an awesome movie. Not only is it an awesome movie but it lent some fuel to the fire on my personal war against religion.
